Abstract

The detrimental effects of pressure pulsations in pipework systems are well known. Arising from the normal action of positive displacement pumps, such pulsations are responsible for potentially damaging vibrations, flow-rate fluctuations and loss of pumping efficiency. Simon Wheatley of UK specialist equipment manufacturer Flowguard Ltd discusses the role of pulsation dampers in alleviating these problems, illustrating the advantages with a wide range of practical examples. The criteria for selecting dampers and the most recent developments are also covered.
