Abstract

Background/IntroductionNursing students often learn effective communication through observational and varied clinical opportunities. Role play can be helpful, however, limited by the engagement and commitment of those participating. Literature ReviewWhile nursing has limited data on the use of mixed reality (MR) to support learner development of effective communication skills, teacher education programs have successfully integrated MR to support professional role development. Innovation in SimulationMR simulation in an undergraduate nursing education program provided an innovative teaching-learning strategy to practice difficult conversations aligned to realistic healthcare experiences. DiscussionAs nursing students prepare for the complex healthcare environment, MR appears to be a promising method for development of communication skills and confidence in practice.
