Abstract

This workshop presented a necessarily brief outline of the development and standardization of various metadata schemes. Metadata is primarily useful to administer, describe, and manage nontradi-tional Web-based resources. The workshop focused on the application of Dublin Core elements as descriptors of networked Web resources. Margi Mann outlined the OCLC's Cooperative Online Resource Catalog (CORC) Project, designed to encourage libraries, archives, museums and other institutions to build and share a database for electronic resources. Yumin Jiang presented examples of several different library metadata projects and then spoke specifically about Cornell University Library's participation in the CORC Project. At Cornell, a team and workflow was established that was able to develop procedures to select electronic resources, create metadata and share that information via CORC.
