Abstract

LOCAL ARCHITECTURE has many possibilities for teachers interested in using the community as an historical resource. Houses, storeMs. TAYLOR holds a Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Carolina and has worked for seven years as a photographer and designer of educational materials. She has been an innovator in methods and materials for using architecture as a teaching resource and has authored and produced materials centering on historic architecture for the Boulder Valley Schools and the State Historical Society of Colorado. She is currently a media coordinator for the Regional Research Institute in Portland, Oregon. Mr. DOWNEY is Professor of History in the University of Colorado, where he teaches courses in United States urban, local, and nineteenth-century history. With Fay Metcalf he has published books on state and local history. Professor Downey is involved in pre-service and in-service teacher training programs.
