Abstract

The flexible physical layer design of fifth generation mobile networks (5G) and non-orthogonal multiplexing (NOM) techniques such as layered-division-multiplexing (LDM) make it possible to meet the ever-growing demand for media service. This paper proposes to use LDM-based layered multicast for system capacity enhancement. The multicast content is delivered with differentiated quality in different LDM layers. With the aim of maximizing capacity, we formulate a joint optimization problem of layer-user pairing and power allocation. The proposed algorithm finds the optimal transmit power and service data rate for each layer, and each multicast subscriber of the multicast content is arranged to receive the most suitable layer. Numerical simulation evaluates the performance of LDM-based layered multicast and demonstrates the improvement of system capacity and service data rate.
