Using Industry-based Spatio-Temporal Database to Store and Retrieve Big Trafc Data

Abstract

This paper deals with the storage, processing and retrieval of large amounts of vehicle movement data from spatio-temporal database. The objective is to provide information about the solutions that are available for effective storage, data retrieval, and visualization of spatio-temporal data, as well as details on how to use those data to develop applications. The specific industry-based spatio-temporal database called SpaceTime provided by Mireo d.d. was used as a base for the development of an effective system for data processing, visualization, transmission and storage. The paper presents the architecture, as well as implementation details to implement such a system. The results indicate that SpaceTime database with its specific architecture and indexing method, outperforms other freely available database management systems dealing with spatio-temporal data.
