Using Grounded Theory to research emotions at work

Abstract

There are major differences in the two main interpretations of Grounded Theory, which can be problematic when reviewing research into emotions at work. To ensure good research design, a critical approach to undertaking and reviewing grounded theory is needed, especially in relation to: the researcher's effects upon data generation, the extent to which researchers have been reflective, the different ways researchers define the creation of conceptual categories and the degree of representation and representativeness of data. Five main conceptual differences in the way grounded theory is conducted are analysed. An overview of selected academic debates surrounding grounded theory is discussed.
