Using GM(2, 1) and T-GM(2, 1) to Predict the Number of Students for Admission

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to use GM(2, 1) and T-GM(2, 1) to predict the number of students for admission. GM(2, 1) based on grey system theory is a prediction dynamic model and has been applied to many prediction elds. T-GM(2, 1) based on the combination of GM(2, 1) and Taylor approximation method to improve the predicted accuracy of GM(2, 1). This combined model can obtain the most optimal predicted values by multi-times approximate calculation. The research has built a MATLAB toolbox for both mentioned prediction models to compare the accuracy together. The experimental results showed that T-GM(2, 1) could be adjusted repeatedly until reaching the optimal values, and it made the predicted error reduce to the minimum. The comparison of the predicted results with the original data showed that the accuracy of the predicted results of the T-GM(2, 1) was very high.
