Abstract

In this paper, a new application for the novel Geographic Midpoint algorithm to find the required lightpath for a Forced Routing optical networks, is introduced. This algorithm was presented before as a solution of the Monitoring-Trail (m-trail) design problem which is used in fault localization in optical networks. The original algorithm has been modified to produce a lightpath instead of a trail as well as its acceptance to have a start and an end node. A simulation of both the original and the modified algorithms is carried out and examples are provided for demonstration purposes. Also optimal solutions for both algorithms are demonstrated for comparisons. An introduction to Routing and Wavelength Assignment (RWA) problem in Wavelength-Routed optical WDM networks is given as well as a brief about Forced Routing networks.
