Abstract

In this article, the authors outline their research projects related to using features in machine design problems. They also propose a concept of physical features, derived through their recent research on a computerized method for diagnosing machine design. The concept of physical features provides a computer system with an effective way of handling relations between physical structures and behaviors of a machine. The authors show the outline of a computerized method of extracting physical features from a physical structure description of a machine using a syntax analysis method.
