Using Electronic Prescription Orders to Improve Adherence to National Guidelines on Prophylactic Antibiotics in a Medical Office Setting

Abstract

perioperative antibiotics (Table 2), antibiotic redundancy & duplicate therapy management, quality measure guidelines for pneumonia (Table 3) and dosing protocols for aminoglycosides & vancomycin. We analyzed therapeutic category reports & developed MEUs (Figures 1 & 2). Our AS pharmacist reporting is shown in Figure 3. LESSON LEARNED: Our AS initiatives continue to evolve to meet changing patterns of resistance in our hospital while targeting high use, cost & potential for toxicity antibiotic & antifungal therapies.
