Grammar is study of rules that cover the combination of words to form meaningful and grammatically correct sentence. This study use Experience, Generalization, Reinforcement, and Application (EGRA) technique to improve students` grammar mastery. By using this technique the students try to find out the form and function of the sentence by themselves. Besides that, EGRA technique has various instructions to help students understand the material; giving picture, vocabularies and quiz in experience step, analyzing the text in generalization step, providing in reinforcement step, and giving a task in application step. This study was aimed to see the Improving Grammar Mastery at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Pinrang. The objective of this study is to get the empirical data of the differences between students` score grammar test that were taught by using EGRA technique and the students were not. The population of this study consists of 273 students. The sampling process of this research is cluster random sampling technique. The researcher took two classes, X MIPA 2 as experimental class consisted of 36 students and X IPS 2 as control class consisted of 34 students. The design of this study is a quantitative method using quasi-experimental design (non-equivalent control group) with two group classess, namely experimental class and control class. The data was collected through pretest and posttest. It aimed to know whether the EGRA technique in teaching grammar can improve students` grammar mastery. The result of this research shows that students` grammar mastery significantly improves. Based on the calculation, the result of the data analysis by using t-test showed the value of ttest (to) was higher than ttable (tt), to > tt = 9.11 > 1.667, in significant degree of 0.05 (5%). As the statistical hypotheses shows, if ttest (to) > ttable (tt) in significant degree of 0.05 (5%), it means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In conclusion, EGRA technique is able to improve the students` grammar mastery.

  • Siti Nor Azizah + 2 more

Grammar mastery is one of the most essential components in English language proficiency. However, However, many EFL students often deal with tenacious learning difficulties. They take place due to monotonous learning instructions and students’ different learning motivation. The academic research examines the effectiveness of Wayground (formerly Quizizz) in increasing students’ grammar mastery across varying levels of learning motivation. By using a quasi-experimental mixed-method design, the research involved 70 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pecangaan, Jepara. They were assigned to an experimental group receiving instruction through Wayground and a control group receiving conventional methods. The research data were gathered through assessments of grammar mastery administered as pre-test and post-test, a questionnaire of learning motivation adapted from Gardner’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery, and a questionnaire of student perception. Quantitative data were analysed using paired-sample t-tests, independent-sample t-tests, and two-way ANOVA. Qualitative data served to enrich and support the interpretation of the findings. The results indicate that both instructional approaches led to significant improvements in students’ grammar mastery. The experimental class achieved a higher mean gain score than the control class but the difference was not statistically significant. Furthermore, learning motivation and the interaction between instructional method and motivation did not have significant effect on grammar mastery improvement. Nonetheless, students reported positive perceptions of Wayground, principally regarding increased engagement, enjoyment, and the provision of immediate feedback. These findings suggest that Wayground represents a pedagogically beneficial supplementary tool for grammar instruction, especially for boosting active and enjoyable learning experiences in EFL classrooms.

Examining Google Classroom-assisted blended learning in Indonesian EFL grammar classes
  • May 31, 2022
  • Erudita: Journal of English Language Teaching
  • Nur Muthmainnah

The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of Google Classroom-assisted blended learning in two EFL grammar classes. It investigates the difference between EFL students’ grammar mastery applying blended learning and discussion method. Framed in experimental research, this study recruited 52 EFL student teachers in an Indonesian university to participate. Data were garnered through multiple choice tests. Study findings reveal that the significance value of paired sample t-test was 0.00 < 0.05, showing that there was significant influence of blended learning toward the EFL students’ grammar mastery. The significance value of t-test (2.029) > t-table (0.2732) indicates that there was a difference in the students’ grammar mastery after giving treatment in experimental and control groups. The N-gain value was 0.1164 > 0.7, proving that Google Classroom-aided blended learning was effective to foster the students’ grammar mastery. Since the t-test (2.029) > t-table (0.2732), H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. This means that Google Classroom-assisted blended learning gave a positive impact on the students’ grammar mastery. This study concludes with some empirical evidence that Google Classroom-mediated blended learning is promoted to be an innovative learning management system in EFL classes to boost students’ grammar mastery.
