Abstract
Disk-detector geometry replacing a conventional square detector with a disk detector is a technique designed to speed up Monte Carlo simulations of light transport in turbid media, such as tissues, in the context of a backscattering problem. In this study, applicability of using this technique to calculate optical path length traveled by photons in a medium is tested. It is shown that such calculations are performed correctly and their accuracy is higher than in the case of square detectors.
