Abstract

This chapter explores the implementation of contextual inputs as strategies to enhance student engagement in online learning. The chapter provides a background to the concept of student engagement and the numerous benefits of student engagement in online learning. The chapter also provides the significance of student engagement in education and as it relates to students. Also, the concept and potential impact of contextual inputs on student engagement was discussed alongside notable empirical scientific contributions on the use of contextual inputs in online learning spaces. The chapter also narrates the challenges and limitations of using contextual inputs for student engagement in online learning spaces. Theoretical frameworks related to student engagement in online spaces were also provided. The chapter also indicated some strategies and approaches for incorporating contextual inputs into online spaces while providing implications for policy and practice in online learning.
