Abstract

Although online coursework is now considered commonplace, instructors still struggle to discover ways to enhance student interactivity. This quick fix exercise describes how asynchronous online discussions (check-ins) can be used to help understand and meet online student needs. Check-ins—touchpoints throughout the grading period—enable instructors to connect with students, understand their unique circumstances, gather useful firsthand information, and provide supports that foster success. This article is of value to online instructors hoping to improve online student interaction and success.
