Abstract
Conclusions: There is much uncertainty in the localization of the inferior edge of rectal tumors. Preoperative RT is known to cause fecal incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and hypogonadism. These toxicities might be minimized by more accurate delineation of inferior tumor extent. Based on these findings we are initiating efforts to endoscopically delineate inferior tumor extent with metallic markers at the time of staging ultrasound to more precisely guide RT field design.
