Abstract
In the past ten years approximately 40 mobile training units have been used to provide courses in aspects of technology for teachers and for pupils. In this article a brief overview of past and present use of mobile units is given. Although, as will be seen, it is impossible to assess the overall success of such units due to lack of any systematic evaluation, it is possible to assess the effectiveness of one mobile unit. The aim for this unit, the Biotechnology Bus, was to encourage the uptake of biotechnology into the school curriculum.
