Abstract
Information on the effects of heavy metals in the environment was seriously lacking up to approximately the 1970s. Since then Bryan & Hummerstone (1973), Klein et al. (1974), Simpson (1979) and many others have indicated the increased amounts of heavy metals being disposed into the estuarine environment and the effects of this on the biota.
