Abstract

The first lesson in anesthesia is “Avoid hypoxia.” So why do high-altitude physiologists ignore the advice? 1) We need to study hypoxia to understand its dangers; 2) It’s fun if you don’t get acute mountain sickness or make a fatal decision, and 3) A bit of hypoxia may be good for us.
