Abstract

In canal and coastal planning of cities during the course of history, the scope of structural and natural elements has been very important in terms of sport and health for those living in residences close to waterways. Studies about this topic are limited and insufficient in Turkey in general, and the source of this topic is Canakkale which has the potential to be a canal city. Within this scope, landscape designs for Saricay canal and surroundings in Canakkale were assessed by those living close to the canal based on sport and health. Firstly, outputs were obtained about the usability of canal water with analysis results of wastewater discharged into the canal. Survey questions administered to canal residents revealed the user perceptions about the sport and health-dominated landscape design and a model landscape design for nearly 45-decare area in the study area was created in the Landscaping Architect 2018 program. The survey study was applied face-to-face to 100 canal residents. Assessment about the landscape design of the canal and surroundings analyzed user satisfaction, within the scope of sport and health components. For this, multiple regression analysis was performed in the SPSS 15.0 statistical program. In conclusion, it was identified that landscape planning not related to sport and health components was present in the area of the study. In this area landscape planning and design of the Saricay river and surroundings were determined based on the perception and tendencies of those living in residences close to the river. At the point of increasing quality of life, as water quality was within ideal limits, an alternative model application was developed for landscape design of the channel supporting sufficient and functional planning within the scope of sport and health components based on user perceptions.
