Abstract

We recently read with particular interest a letter by Roth et al. about long-term results of oral vitamin B12 therapy [1]. It is an excellent paper on a very interesting topic: the role of oral vitamin B12 therapy in the management of vitamin B12 deficiency in clinical practice. It is the first study we encountered in the literature that focuses on oral cobalamin therapy with a follow-up of more than 3 years. However, some points call for further elucidation. Therefore, we present here additional information that reflects our own experience with oral vitamin B12 therapy for food-cobalamin malabsorption, the leading cause of cobalamin deficiency in adults [2].
