Abstract

Abstract A rapid and specific procedure has been devised for detecting chlorinated hydrocarbons, organophosphorus compounds, and other contaminating pesticides in commercial pesticide formulations. Samples were extracted with chloroform, spotted on thin layer plates, and compared to standards. Spots showing evidence of contamination are identified by gas chromatography and infrared techniques. Silver nitrate mixed with aluminum oxide and silica gel G are used as the immobile phases. Spraying is not necessary with the silver nitrate-aluminum oxide immobile phase.
