The possibility of using the surface ionization of organic molecules to investigate the organic matter in carbonaceous minerals is tested. It is shown in the example of shungite that the pyrolysis of such compounds releases organic molecules or radicals into the gas phase that are capable of being ionized on the surface of oxidized tungsten.
