Abstract
A pilot study was conducted prior to the initiation of a two-stage epidemiological field survey in Puerto Rico in which the CBCL will be used as a screening instrument. The study design was applied to a stratified sample of 191 children. 4-16 years of age. Although the CBCL was found to be limited in its capacity to screen for DSM-III diagnoses alone, it was found to be more effective when the concept of “caseness” was expanded to include a measure of severity of impairment. State-of-the-art issues are discussed.
