Abstract

I nterest in the use of synthetic antimalarial drugs for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue disorders began during the post-World War II era. Both quinacrine hydrochloride (a g-aminoacridine compound) and primaquine (an 8-aminoquinoline compound) were reported in the medical literature to be effective drugs: however, serious toxic reactions precluded their widespread use [ 1.21.
