Abstract
Consideration has been given to the measurement of Sr/Ca ratios in hair as an indication of body burdens and exposures. Experiments were done in rats using both double tracer techniques and measurements of stable strontium and calcium. Two findings emphasize the difficulties that must be overcome if such measurements are to be useful: (a) The values of ORhair/diet and presumably of ORhair/bone were markedly affected by the washing of the hair and (b) discrepant results were obtained in comparisons of double tracer values and those from stable Sr and Ca analysis. The latter observation has also been reported by other laboratories and is as yet unexplained.
