Abstract

The investigation was made to establish the most reliable procedure for obtaining a working curve for the photometric determination of aluminum in polypropylenes. It was found that an addition of sodium chloride to the sample solution was favorable for the determination of trace amounts of aluminum, and the effect of sodium chloride was assumed to be due to the prevention of the adsorption of trace amounts of aluminum on the surface of quartz beaker.By the examination using thin layer chromatography, in which the Rf value of aluminum with developing solvent saturated with sodium chloride was larger than twice that without the salt, it was revealed that sodium chloride prevented the adsorption of aluminum on the anhydrated silicic acid as the adsorbent.
