Abstract

Semiclassical quantities are used to discuss several features of transfer and inelastic scattering reactions induced by heavy ions. Experimental data on absorption phenomena in elastic scattering and the relative importance of quasielastic channels are presented. Transfer probabilities and the enhancement of two-nucleon transfer cross sections due to correlated nuclear structure are discussed. The question of two-step, simultaneous and successive transfer reactions is investigated for 16, 18O induced two neutron transfer reactions, and the “exotic” (16O, 16O, 15C) reaction.
