Abstract

This article is a review of clinical applications of the radial forearm free flap for reconstruction of defects of the head and neck. Included is a brief historical review, a summary of surgical anatomy, general principles of flap harvesting, and donor site morbidity. Its focus is on the indications, general principles, main technical points, and results of radial forearm free flap reconstruction of the cheek, lower lip, oral cavity, oropharynx, laryngopharynx, pharyngoesophagus, plate, and anterior skull base defects after ablative surgery for head and neck cancer.
