Abstract

The pre-evacuated vacuum aspirator is basically a collection bottle of appropriate size to which a cap valve and socket assembly are attached. A detachable strainer inside the bottle allows the products of conception to be observed. The suction cannula is attached directly to the aspirator. A pre-evacuated vacuum bottle may be incorporated into existing hand-held aspirators. The vacuum can be pre-induced manually electrically thermodynamically or hydrodynamically. If vacuum is inadvertently lost or exhausted reservoirs may be easily interchanged during aspiration. Other advantages include lack of noise; no possibility of applying positive pressure; safety margin in event of accidental uterine perforation by virtue of limitation of available vacuum; easily cleaned and transportable and inexpensive equipment; and better shearing action by cannula aperture shorter operating time and less blood loss-all because of immediate subjection of uterine cavity to maximum negative pressure.
