Abstract

Water-soluble polymers are used extensively in various stages of gas and oil production operations, typical examples being enhanced oil recovery, water production control and well drilling. A variety of polymeric materials, both naturally occurring and synthetic ones, are currently used: guar and cellulose derivatives, xanthan gum, polysaccharides, polyacrylamides and others. In this paper only the application of polymeric materials to enhanced recovery processes is discussed.
