Abstract

Metal-physical principles of fabricating a gradient material—a material with a given distribution of regions with different physical and mechanical properties—are described. The possibility of the preparation of such material is demonstrated by the example of alloys of the iron-chromium-nickel system of the austenite-martensite class. A structure consisting of macroscopic regions of austenite and martensite of given form is prepared in these alloys using the methods of plastic deformation and local thermal processing.
