It is widely believed that the European Working Time Regulations have led to working practices that have altered the trainee–consultant trainer relationship in the UK. The time-tested apprenticeship model of training risks being lost inadvertently as a result of the limitations in continuity of care and decreased trainee–trainer interaction. 1,2
