Abstract
The photocatalytic activity of zinc sulphide has been enhanced using potassium chloride on heating at various temperatures. The sample was mixed with KCl in certain molar ratio i.e. 0.25. The progress of the reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically. The effect of various operating parameters like pH, concentrations of dye, amount of semiconductor, light intensity etc. on the rate of photocatalytic bleaching of eosin Y was observed. More efficient ZnS as photocatalyst was found at 673 K for 3.0 h under muffle furnace. A tentative mechanism for the photocatalytic bleaching of the dye has also been proposed.
