Abstract

1. The method employing friction created by a high-speed steel disk is effective for hardening components of low-carbon low-alloy steels. 2. The thermal processes that develop under friction have a predominant effect on the formation of the hardened layer. 3. The optimum machining conditions established by the computational method ensure the hardening of plane surfaces by the plunge cutting of a steel disk without cross feed.
