Abstract

Abstract The use of industrial by-products as a construction fill is set to increase in order to minimize the environmental impact of large infrastructure construction schemes. The Czech Republic is one of a number of countries where these products are now used. This paper gives a brief background to the use of colliery spoil, fly ash, blast furnace slag and PRESTAB, with particular reference to the construction of the D47 motorway and R48 expressway near Ostrava.
