Abstract

Optimum parameters were determined for the precipitation of carbonate—silicate fillers of calcite or aragonite structure and of a high degree of dispersion from a solution of sodium metasilicate and calcium hydroxide in the presence of CO 2. Physico-chemical, diffractometric and microscopic analysis was performed for the carbonate—silicate fillers. Methods were devised to modify the surface of carbonate—silicate fillers using various coupling agents, such as stearic acid, stearates, silane and titanate coupling agents. Attempts were made to apply the precipitated carbonate—silicate fillers in mixtures of butadiene—styrene rubber.
