Abstract

The use of a mixture of pearlite and graphite at metallurgical plants to teem steel has improved the quality of the resulting ingots and reduced top end crop from subsequent semifinished products. For example, thanks to use of the mixture, the Makeevka plant has reduced the number of ingots with surface defects by 3.65% (abs.), reduced the number of semifinished products with surface defects from 3.2 to 2.3%, and reduced the top crop on same from 13.013.5 to 12.0%. The Enakievo plant has reduced the amount of metal rejected at the first conversion from 0.77 to 0.36%, reduced top crop from 13.3 to 10% thanks to a reduction in pipe, and improved ingot surface quality. The savings here have amounted to 0.5-0.9 rubles/ton steel.
