Abstract

Scores from the Guide to the Assessment of Test-Session Behavior together with those from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Third Edition (WISC-III) acquired from a random sample of 640 children were used to test Kaufman's hypothesis that WISC-III Freedom From Distractibility and Processing Speed scores will be lower than those from their corresponding factors (i.e., Verbal Comprehension and Perceptual Organization) when children display inappropriate test-taking behaviors. This hypothesis was not supported. Clinicians are encouraged to rely on behavioral indices other than WISC-III scores when forming judgments about the suitability of children's test-taking behaviors.
