Abstract
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used as a tool for identifying spectral markersrepresenting differences between Escherichia coli and Borrelia Burgdorferi sensu stricto. In order toprescribe an effective treatment it is important to identify the pathogenic agent as fast as possible.Among the existing methods based on the vibrational spectroscopy that can provide a real timedetection of microorganisms, there is also the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. We obtainedmain differences in spectral range 3250-3650 cm-1 (region dominated by hydroxy or amino groups),1500-1200 cm-1 (mixed region) and 1200-900 cm-1 (polysaccharide region). Our results suggest thatFT-IR spectroscopy can be used for the detection of the biochemical differeces between Escherichiacoli and Borrelia Burgdorferi sensu stricto.
