Abstract

At the placement appointment for an immediate denture, a tissue conditioner is often used to compensate for discrepancy in the fit, ensuring patient comfort and stability. When the stone cast is trimmed conservatively, or there is unanticipated need for additional surgical trimming of the extraction sites, the denture will require an interim resilient liner. However, if the liner is placed directly over the extraction sites, it can disturb the clotting mechanism and pull out suture material when the denture is removed after initial polymerization. Protrusions on the intaglio surface of the denture also require trimming. This article presents a simple technique to block out the surgical sites before relining the immediate denture.
