Abstract

Large Area Picosecond Photo-detector (LAPPD) is a project to develop large area (8x8) micro-channel plate photomultiplier (MCP PMT) cost effectively. The MCP PMT under development also features a read-out scheme using high frequency (> 10GS/s) waveform sampling of the signal on Transmission-line. Due to its good timing and space resolution, it would be suitable for Time-of-Flight (TOF) detectors and calorimeters in large scale high energy physics experiments. The MCP PMT from LAPPD can also be applicable to Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector. A prototype PET detector module was built to demonstrate the idea of using the MCP PMT from LAPPD for PET application. Preliminary test results are presented in this paper.
