Abstract

A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effect of different priming tools on the seed quality parameters of two barley varieties – BHS 380 and BHS 400. One-year-old and fresh seed lots were used. The experimental design was completely randomized design with three replications. Results interpreted that hydro-priming for 6 hours and thermo-priming for 12 hours at 30° C  had significant effect on germination (%), seedling vigour (I&II), field emergence (%) and 2 mm radical emergence (mm) of both lots of two varieties in comparison to control. Pre-chilling treatment does not have any significant effect on seed quality parameters of barley seed. So to enhance the planting value and seed quality in barley hydro-priming and thermo-priming can be used.
