Abstract

The paper deals with development work and experiences on computer applications in the Pekilo-process. The Pekilo-process is an industrial single cell protein (SCP) production process, by which SCP can be produced from suitable carbohydrates like sulphite liquor, wood hydrolysates, molasses etc. The process is based on continuous fermentation of Paecilomyces varioti microfungus with high growth rates resulting 55-60 % w/w raw protein content. Up to this time two full scaled plants using spent sulphite liquor have been constructed in Finland.
