Abstract

The practice of effective hand hygiene is critical to the prevention of hospital-acquired infections, and improved adherence to hand hygiene has been shown to reduce transmission of antimicrobial-resistant organisms and reduce overall infection rates. While this message is well known to heath care providers, it can be challenging to sustain high compliance rates due to message fatigue, competing safety priorities, and continuous staff turnover.
