Abstract

This is a review of foreign work on the operation of circulating fluidized bed boilers at thermal power plants with co-firing of fossil fuels and different kinds of biomass. Co-firing technologies are found to be efficient and to provide good economic and ecological performance. The effect of fuel mixture on the efficiency of boilers is discussed and it is noted that the overall fuel costs at a power plant can be reduced by using biomass from nearby sources. The influence of the fraction of biomass in the fuel mixture on sulfur oxide and carbon dioxide emissions is analyzed.
