Abstract

Abstract The effects of 0.5% calcium nitrate sprays and 5% calcium chloride post-harvest dips on cool-stored Spartan apples were investigated. Nine sprays applied at intervals over the whole growing season or a post-harvest dip proved equally effective in reducing breakdown. Incorporation of lecithin in the dip prevented skin damage caused by calcium.
