Abstract
New layout formation in an urban area calls for detailed planning, policy formulations and decision making, which requires qualitative and quantitative information primarily on urban features, settlements, traffic networks, water bodies, vacant lands, etc., and the integration of the same with necessary collateral information such as trend of population growth, ground water availability, distance from industrial area, disaster proneness, accessibility in order to protect the environmental features. This study attempted to use the satellite data for georeferencing the existing cadastral village maps of the proposed layout and prepare comprehensive urban land use information at cadastral level, which is useful to evaluate the amenities of the layout. For example, in order to find out the ground water prospects of the layout and of eachparcel, this database will be useful. This brings out the potential of high-resolution satellite data and geographical information system–based cadastral applications in support of the formation of the new layout.
