Abstract

Purpose: Third nerve palsy is a difficult condition to treat. Patients need to be informed that it is not possible to create normal eye movements surgically. Botulinum toxin may be used to reduce the angle of strabismus and in symptomatic patients to alleviate diplopia by increasing the field of binocular single vision. Suitable patients may proceed to surgery, others to long-term maintenance therapy with botulinum toxin.
