Abstract

A Bacillus subtilis endo-β-1,4-glucanase gene contained in a recombinant plasmid pBS1 was transferred into a new shuttle vector plasmid pCK98 by ligating linearized DNAs of pBS1 and pUB110. B. subtilis RM125 and B. megaterium transformed with pCK98 produced the glucanase substantially and excreted into the medium. Most of the enzyme was produced during the exponential growth period and the production was not repressed by glucose or cellobiose. The plasmid was stable in B. megaterium but not in B. subtilis.
